So I've decided to use "The Little Match Girl" tale and twist it up a bit, there will be a phaerie creature in the story that helps take her soul to the other side when she passes. (aka a grim reaper??)
Normally in folk lore an enchanted scarecrow is the product of phaeries magic- a creature created to serve the phaerie people or the phaerie royalty. The scarecrow will creep into the night and take children who sleep using it's magic powder, in exchange for the baby or child the scarecrow will leave a phaerie child or a child of the phaerie- a changling. Occasionally the scarecrow will take the soul's of soon departing children or youths to bring to the phaerie royalty, to increase in it's strength or it's own youthful appearence the phaerie will eat the soul- or enchant it and place it inside an inanimate object if it so chooses. The soul's are not often kept for long and later released if this is chosen.
