Ode to the Bouncer

Okay so I couldn't help it, this character is just too cute not to draw. So I whipped up some quick sketches in about 10 minutes. Saw Studio Killers new music video "Ode to the Bouncer" and fell in love with the animated girl character in the vid. She's a fresh idea and design to me. I see everyone always drawling these pretty little misses all the time- or modeling sexy bombshells- Its refreshing to see a thicker animated girl model/character. Its harder to animate/rig these kinds of characters but the people responsible for her did a great job. Check it out!

ODE TO THE BOUNCER

New art! Where Have I been!?

oh noes! So here is some things that I've been working on, school is eating my soul- but thats fine. I dont really mind it all that much.

This is like 2 posts in one, sorry! I need to update more often. i'll try to do this every time I complete a piece of digital art. I've been slaving away at computer animation- it SO much fun! So below first up is a rendering of Syx, a vigliante based off of Dreamworks 'Megamind.' I find when I cannot think of anything to draw, doing a piece of 'fan art'? helps me out to come up with fun ideas! I really enjoy this image, althought I notice so much wrong with him. I just wanted to test out the new techniques that I'd learned at Evolve CG this year!

So the process has the inks and sketchiness, as well as the new technique (well its new to me) where you lay down the shadows first. (black and white) and then you go over it with subtle colors- it has a very nice effect and I enjoy it quite a lot. I must try this again without such harsh lines. That will be my next challenge to myself! (below Syx is a Satyr that I did for a contest, before I learned this new technique.)

Final Piece:

and here is the process:

The helmet and boots are inspired from Batman and American Chopper-esque'. I just enjoyed in the film how Megamind's lair and creations had that 'junk yard' feel. I'd like to mess around with this idea more. Maybe place him on a Tuono. (Can you fell my motorcycle obsession coming in?) Ive tried to curve this but its hard to kill creation when the inspiration strikes, so don't be surprised if I do a Syx on a Motorcycle piece. Dreamworks owns Megamind, I however own this image. But feel free to right click+ save if you like it, I don't mind. (critiques and comments as always are welcome and appreciated!)

He wasn't going to be standing on a chair originally. I was watching my cat play around one day, and I thought, maybe he should use a chair to reach the window? It is an older style window after all, and almost balcony-like. I've been in houses with 'high-windows' and about 15 couldn't climb out them unless I had a box or something. So since he's about that age in this image, I thought it would add more to the over all flow of the image.

SO here is some process and the final for my Satyr. I'm not completely happy with her and I'd like to try a new technique I've learned at Evolve.CG. Do the image in black and white, and then add color. It is very professional looking, and I can block my shadows without laying down a definite color palate. Critiques and comments are welcome here, I would love to improve thanks very much!

The Final:

And the Process:

The rock and leaves were made with brushes preset in photoshop. : / I will try to draw them out next time, i don't really like how they came out. I do enjoy the scratchy border, but it seems too childish for the image. In the future I'll not mix my toon with my realistic, well not so obviously- this came out trashy and I dont like it. But we all learn from our mistakes!
